臺灣金壺獎從第三屆(2010)開始就已進入『非正式』的國際競賽展,所謂『非正式』指的就是臺灣金壺獎雖未正式掛上國際競賽展的名號,但在參賽資格上並不限定國籍,開放給所有對壺有興趣的國際友人參與。而本屆金壺獎已正式的成為國際競賽展,並吸引了十三個國家,五百多件作品參與,此結果實在超乎想像,雖然『邁向國際』是剛開始創辦金壺獎時的雄心,但能有如此盛況卻是從不敢奢望的壯志。
也因為本屆的參賽人數及作品暴增,相對的也大幅增加了非常多的行政事務工作,幸有賴陶藝、茶藝等各界人士不辭辛勞的情意相挺,才有辦法讓這個充滿熱情卻沒有經費的民辦競賽得以順利進行,尤其今年鶯歌陶博館更傾全力投入支援,充分展現出產官合作的新典範。
臺灣金壺獎從第一屆創辦開始就一直是採用「責任評審制」,歷屆評審在面對數量龐大又各具特色的參賽作品時,都是一件吃力不討好的工作,在如何抉擇、如何取捨,與最後如何決定名次之間,任誰來當評審都很難圓滿,這必須要富有見解的實力、勇於決斷的能力,以及敢於承擔的魄力。尤其是本屆已進入國際競賽展的範疇,很慶幸還是有陶藝界的先進,願意不惜犧牲清譽,義務相挺,精神實在令人感佩。
溯於機緣,從上屆開始嘗試性的增列了『茶藝推薦獎』的榮譽獎項,邀請茶藝界推派責任評審,主觀的挑選出『好壺』,以對比陶藝評審的觀點異同,這種刺激與互動,使陶藝界受益良多。經由上屆的試煉後,本屆開始已將『茶藝推薦獎』明訂為有獎金的正式獎項,希望經由茶與陶的交流與激盪,能夠對壺藝創作者產生更寬廣的視界,以及更落實的底蘊。
「臺灣金壺獎」是緣起於陶博館舉辦的「第一、二屆台灣陶瓷金質獎-生活茶具競賽展」,後經各陶藝組織聯合組成的「台灣陶藝聯盟」接手與傳承。在台灣壺藝的推廣上,最令人印象深刻的,就是陶藝界所展現出的「熱情與團結」,獲取了各界廣大的迴響,而得以充分的結合了公部門的展示資源、雜誌的宣傳資源、藝廊的中介資源、收藏家的消費支撐資源,以及茶藝界的交流資源等。此種跨領域資源整合的運作模式,有效的達成文化交流與推廣的多元效益,終而能夠更進一步的把「臺灣金壺獎」推向國際舞台。這個得來不易的結果,主辦單位將繼續秉持著敬業的精神、戰戰兢兢的態度,期望把握住未來所有發展的可能,並將其做到盡善盡美。
Taiwan Gold Teapot Prize has officially gone international
The Taiwan Gold Teapot Prize has been unofficially internationalized since 2010, the word "unofficial" means that although the competition has not been officially titled to be international, yet the contestants were not restricted of their nationalities, it is an event which was opened to anyone who was passionate of about teapots. However, this year's Gold Teapot Prize has formally become an international event and has attracted more than five hundred artworks, made from thirteen countries. In spite of the initial ambitions for establishing the Gold Teapot Prize was to become internationalized, the surprising outcome was more than what was ever expected.
Due to the dramatic increase of contestants and art works, administration works has simultaneously increased, luckily, the warm support and hard work of people from the community of ceramics and tea arts has made it possible for this lack of funding event to be successfully proceeded by the passionate local people. I especially thank the Yingge Ceramics Museum's full support, which sets a new model for collaborations between the government and local institutes.
Taiwan Gold Teapot Prize has employed the "Liable Judge System" since its establishment; it is a thankless task for a judge to encounter such massive amount of unique work each year. How to make the right selections and who to nominate for the final prizes is a dilemma for any judge, thus, the judge must be a person who has a strong understanding of the theme, capability to make courageous decisions, and can undertake responsibilities. To be a judge, particular this year, can be very intimidating, thankfully, there are still extraordinary predecessors who are willing to sacrifice their reputation to support this event, their selfless spirit is to be noted and admired.
Last year, by chance, the competition tentatively added another honorable prize, the Tea Masters' Choice, which was to invite a liable judge, recommended by the tea arts community, to subjectively choose a "good teapot"; the outcome was to set up a comparison between the choices made by the judge with a ceramic background, the exciting spur and interaction greatly benefited the ceramics community. The Tea Masters' Choice went through a trial run last year and has stated as a true award with prize money in this year's competition. Via the exchange and stimulation of this new founded prize, the hope is to provide a broader scope for teapot creators.
Taiwan Gold Teapot Prize is originated from the 1st and 2nd Taiwan Ceramics Gold Award - Everyday Tea Set Competition held by Yingge Ceramics Museum; the competition was then taken over by Taiwan Ceramics Alliance, an organization constituted by various ceramic groups. The profound impression of Taiwanese teapot arts promotion is the "passion and unity" that the ceramics community reveals, this enthusiasm has acquired a vast feedback from every community, which is why it can sufficiently incorporate with display resources of public sectors, the publicity resource of magazines, intermediary agent resource of galleries, the supportive resource of collectors and consumers, and the exchange resource of the tea arts community. This operation mode of cross discipline resource integration has a multi-effective impact to culture exchange and promotion, which made it possible to take a further step for internationalizing the Taiwan Gold Teapot Prize. This fruitful result will motivate the organizers to continually be committed to this significant event and strive for any possible future developments.
